The location and function of the Faculty Studio in the Media Union at the University of Michigan is multifaceted. Functionally, the space fluctuates programs or is all of them at once with different orienations and percentages of use. These programs are an information space, a gallery, a reception space, and a workshop area. Physically, the Faculty Studio is equally faceted, with relationships (as existing) with other programs in the Media Union such as the Video Studio and Media Union Gallery, as well as existing as a throughfare of pulsating traffic arriving from central Campus into north Campus.
The proposal develops these site characteristics into qualities for the project. The Faculty Studio can be configured and reconfigured as a gallery space, a reception space, a collaboration workshop space and be all of these things simultaneously. It is also an information and orientation zone and a waiting area equipped with interactive displays and exhibits.
